Washington Twp. Fire Department - Fire Station #1

Washington Township, Michigan

Michigan Air Provides Solution to Dangerous Exhaust for 17,745 Sq Ft Fire Station

This 17,745 square-foot fire station became the first in the country to benefit from an ARRA grant, which covered $1.5 of the approx. $2.5 construction cost.  The station includes an 8,793 square-foot apparatus bay that houses six of the department’s fire apparatus.  To eliminate diesel exhaust from the bay and thereby preventing the migration of hazardous pollutants (including known and suspected carcinogens) to all areas of the station, a Nederman MagnaSeries source capture system was installed.  The system utilizes an electromagnet that attaches to the apparatus and positions an exhaust nozzle directly over the tailpipe, ensuring 100% of exhaust gases are removed.  When the apparatus exits the station the electromagnet automatically and safely disengages at the threshold of the bay.  Michigan Air Products worked closely with EAM Engineering, Inc. and the Washington Twp. Fire Department to provide an easy to use system that fits with their operational procedures.

Michigan Air Products provides a Nederman MagnaSeries vehicle exhaust extraction system for the first fire station in the country to be completed with stimulus funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
